Why Hillary Clinton Should Stay in the Race.

The validity of Hillary Clinton's candidacy has been questioned lately. There are some who say that her time has come to pull out and to let Barack become the nominee. But there are also some, like me, who believe that she race should continue.
The race is much closer than it is portrayed on tv. It is true that right now the numbers do not favor her, but so much could happen from now until the convention. National polls are essentially tied at 50/50. The exclusion of some of the largest states in the nation also has taken its toll on Hillary's numbers. Even without those delegates she is close behind.
It is not fair to the remaining primary states. With the race as close as it is, you would think that a democracy would want to let its citizens get a chance to voice their opinions. Without a clear winner, they could make all the difference. If they were to vote for Obama, Hillary supporters everywhere and Hillary herself would admit his victory and give him the nomination. But in such an important election, clarity is demanded. At this point, it does not exist.
It makes sense for Hillary. As Bill has said, Hillary is not a quitter. To most, that is an admirable quality, a quality possessed by some of the greater presidents. If she were to drop out, she would be deemed a quitter. The Clinton-Bashing Republicans would have a field day. I think looking back, that people in the future would regret her dropping out now if she did. These two battling to the end is so amazing. Look at who they are! A black man and a woman. Isn't it fantastic that it has been such a rigorous election between the two of them? The awe of it all has been understated and overlooked. Hillary cannot let down the 12 million+ people who made the historic decision to vote for her.
Talk of this election ruining the party has also emerged. To be honest, I don't think it is really helping the party, but I also don't think that the Democrats will be hurt by it. Right now, everyone is pretty bitter and so on but in the long run people will get over their little grudges and realize that they need to go with whoever wins the nominee. We have enough ADD to forget how we feel now.
However, there is one thing that should drop out of this race. The media. They have become much more pressing on issues that should not be pressed. If the media didn't concentrate on the negatives of the campaigns I firmly believe that the entire nation would realize the election is neck and neck and would press on for more primaries. I don't think that the media is being particularly biased against Hillary (anymore) but they don't talk about anything except the election. If you repeatedly tell a group of people that someone is down, it will get repetitive and obnoxious, creating a lot of the bitterness they seem to think they didn't have a hand in making. They are forgetting there is a world of news out there! Leave the election to the voters and report on things like Iraq, Darfur...There is so much more out there that we are ignoring.
Mull over these things, comment...anyone welcome.

Happy Anniversary

Happy Belated Iraq War Anniversary! It has been 5 long years since the Iraq War! It has also been 5 years since Bush declared Mission Accomplished, though no one is really sure what mission he thought we had accomplished. "The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on September 11, 2001, and still goes on," Bush said that day in 2003. You are correct President Bush. It has been going and going and going on long enough to make the energizer bunny proud.
4,000 American military lives have been lost. Yesterday alone, which by the way was Easter Sunday, 74 people died. This includes civilians, soliders, etc. www.iraqbodycount.org estimates around 82,000 to 89,000 civilians have died on account of this war. Those are the documented deaths, meaning that the number could be much higher. As I have written before, the cost to the American economy has been tremendous. It is estimated that the war in 2008 will cost $12 billion a month. Money that our deficit cannot afford.
Meanwhile, John McCain says that everything in Iraq has been going well. He doesn't want to change a thing. Violence has been ebbed lately, but cost and lack of purpose have not been. What are we there for now? We are there to keep stability in a mess we created, to try and stop terrorism that we drew to the country, and to do the jobs of the Iraqi government who have been given opportunities, supplies and who have their own money to do their work. It seems to me like it is time to pull out. It seems to me that American lives are worth more than that. It is time to bring them home!

It's Been A While

So much has been happening! The media has been pretty bored for a lack of primaries, so not much election wise has been going on. At least of note. I have also been without internet access for the past two weeks basically, and honestly I don't want to bore everyone with week old news. So from here on, I am keeping updated because I am pretty sure I will have the internet at the next hotel I will be at in Boston...so I should try and stay on top of things. I will be in Boston for spring break - meaning there should be no limit to Democratic news either. Here is a fun look (that is scarily true) at our news media from the eyes of jibjab.

Busy Busy Weekend

So, soooo much has been going on politically that it is hard to keep up with on my busy busy weekend. The main topic of course is Michigan. They are close to reaching an agreement with the Democratic party about a do over primary. Approval is required from the DNC and the Governor, who backs Clinton. MI and FL were stripped of their delegates as punishment for moving their primaries before Feb. 5. Personally, I think that is a ridiculous idea to rid a state of their delegates. It has made a mess of things, especially because the two are huge states with mounds of un-used delegates. Clinton won both MI and FL, so I can see why she would want those states back. Obama opposes FL's January election to be counted. He wanted to split them 50/50, but personally I don't see how that would be fair considering he lost. But with MI, he wasn't even on the ballot. Voters probably didn't get the choices that they really wanted. Yet he chose to make himself unavailable to those voters, so again, I think those delegates should go to Hillary. ok well...gonna research what I have been missing...

Down, But NOT Out

I have started doing my research, and I have come across some interesting facts.

- The last Democratic Candidate in a Presidential General Election to win a southern state that they were not from was Bill Clinton (who is a southerner himself). Before him, it was Hubert Humphrey in 1968. He was from MO and won TX. Barack's HIGHEST delegate numbers (besides IL) came from Southern states that no Democrat has won is recent history. Is it realistic to assume that he, as an African American, would win those states? I only bring this up because of his inability to pull out a big win in the large states. NEXT POINT
- Hillary is pulling out the big state wins. If the Democratic Candidates were being chosen by the electoral college, Hillary Clinton would be winning 219 to 199, excluding Florida and Michigan in her count. With Florida and Michigan, she would add around 40. 270 are required to win. Ohio and Florida could swing either way, who can we count on to pull it out? Someone who has all ready done it. We would need those states, assuming that the nation would be "unified" in NY and CA. NY, CA, and MA can be counted on, and they are behind Hillary.

My point is, don't count Hillary out. She is in much better shape than most would say she is. She is winning the states that are realistic for a general election and that could propel a candidate to victory. Check out the facts. Unless we have another 1996 election and pull it out. All we need is PA, Hill! We are slightly down, BUT WE ARE NOT OUT.

And Another One Bites the Dust

Obama nabbed Mississippi tonight...big surprise. He pulled in 90% of the African American vote and only 1/4 of the white vote. Congratulations to Barack Obama for another big win! I think it is safe to say that Barack is the favorite in the south after wins in SC, GA, LA, and now MS.
One quote that really struck me from tonight was when Barack said,"I'm confident that once we get a nominee, the party is going to be unified." From my experience, this election has been a very polarizing one. I used to love Barack Obama back in 2004. But the more I watch of him, I am able to find more that I don't like or I get more angry because he doesn't agree with my choice as the nominee. This election is making people say and do things that they don't really mean. I don't hate Barack. I actually agree with 95% of what he says, but we are being so polarized by being forced to choose between the two of them that we forget that a lot of the time. Yet the quote also struck me as strange because throughout all the speeches and the talk of unifying, we have become more divided. And that is within our OWN party. I don't see how it is going to work for the whole country when in fact, unification has been pushing us apart. Maybe we need more than the dream for now.

Rut-Roh: The Aides are at it again!

Ugghh. Once again, Hillary is getting a bad name for something she didn't do. We've all heard the Ferraro comments about how Barack wouldn't be where he is if he weren't black. Of course, there really isn't much truth to that. When I say much, I mean there is a subtle ounce of truth in that he gets the majority of African American votes so they are helping him out a lot. But anyway, my point is this nasty love triangle should just be ignored so people can actually look at what HILLARY says and not her aides...B/c she has definately come out saying she disagrees with Ferraro. These aides have been getting in the way, as I have said several times. Oh jeez. Let's just say Barack wins MS and move on.

Mississippi and New York: States on the Radar

Let's start with New York, shall we?
"State Republicans threatened on Tuesday to impeach New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer if he does not quit over a report linking him to a prostitute that has raised questions over whether he could face criminal charges." - from Yahoo news. Does this not just scream Clinton?! Bill...not Hillary. Obviously, what Governor Spitzer did was wrong and he should pay the consequences. There really is no question about that. But what I would like to confront is the Republican readiness that is so eager to pounce on the occasionally raunchy Democrat. Clinton was impeached. He DID lie under oath, but that is honestly not treason or a high crime/misdemeanor. It was a morality issue. As the Yahoo news quote stated, Republicans are all ready concerned with impeaching him if he does not resign. Can we review the Republican sex scandals and affairs please? Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani...How many of them were kicked out of office? It has come to my attention that even though these issues are much more frequent among the Republican Party, they are not held as accountable for their actions as the Democrats are. They get their week-long news stories, but that is about it. Now, Spitzer will need to be need to be charged...But I think there are a couple of Republicans that need to have that happen to them too. Everyone needs to pay for their actions. That is all I am saying.

Whew. Now that THAT is done...Mississippi. Obama is expected to win with the high percent of African American voters. One unexpected factor, however, is Republicans. Mississippi does NOT require party affiliation to vote in the primary. They could try and swing the election. Meanwhile, both Clinton and Obama are all ready focusing on PA. But MS is seriously important to both of them b/c whoever loses can still get a chunk of the delegates with Mississippi's system. We'll see.

Walt Disney = Awesome

My friends and I have been talking about Disney and we started going over the bests and worsts of the classic Disney movies. Here are my final decisions:

Disney Princess I would most want to be: Belle - smart, nonconformist, and her name even screams pretty.
Disney Prince I would most want to marry: Beast - I can't find any of the pics of him as a human, but I liked what I saw in the movie. I would have picked Eric, but umm...kinda shallow. I mean, who picks a girl for her voice?
Disney Villain I would least want to fight: Maleficent - she is a freaking DRAGON.
Disney Villain I would most want to fight: Edgar from the Aristocats. Thomas O'Malley isn't the only pussy in that movie.
Disney's Cutest woodland creatures: Bambi. Snow White doesn't compare.
Best Disney Sidekick: There are too many, Sebastien, Miko, the Genie, Sergeant Tibbs?!
Best Disney Mode of Transportation: Flying Carpet, Aladdin
Disney's Best Couple: Simba and Nala, oh lion love
Disney's Worst Couple: Pocahontas and John ROLFE...The one time Disney tries to be historically accurate, and they ruined Pocahontas for me.
Disney's Ugliest Main Character: Quasimodo...duh
Disney's Most eco-conscious movie: Fern Gully. Heck Yes.

Some Iraq Numbers

This year, the Iraq war is supposed to cost $12 BILLION A MONTH. Interest on the money borrowed could add $816 billion to that number. No one has even tried to calculate how much Iraq's economy will have to pay off either. Costs have been going up in Iraq despite the declining number of deaths due mainly to the: surge of troops, the rising cost of fuel, and new types of military equipment. Some are projecting that the total amount of money spent on veteran's medical care will be around $422 billion to $717 billion. "ALL ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COSTS MIGHT PUSH THE US WAR BILL UP TOWARD $5 TRILLION BY 2017."

Hilarious Video

Hillary is informed that Ann Coulter would prefer her over John McCain.

hillary clinton's reaction to ann coulter - Google Video

Waterboarding? Are you Serious?

President Bush has vetoed a ban on waterboarding. According to the Washington Post, Bush said the ban would take away "one of the most valuable tools in the war on terror." Nancy Pelosi is hoping to try and get enough votes to override the veto, but the original voting margins don't show a high possibility of doing so.

The CRAZY thing is, McCain actually supports this bill. Wasn't he a POW forever? You'd think that he wouldn't want other people to go through the same things that he did. And even though both Hillary and Barack oppose the ban, neither of them showed up to vote on it due to rigorous campaign schedules. I think the whole country (myself included) is getting so wrapped up in the election that we are letting Bush off easy and we are forgetting everything else! Like...Iraq maybe?!

Why can't people see that torture is wrong and that it sends so many mixed messages about our country? We say "Oh hey you guys, we hate tyrants and dictators and we want you to have all these rights." AND THEN, we go and waterboard and torture people like the Khmer Rouge and the dictators in Burma and who knows where else. So basically, it is okay for us to arrest them for torture and call it terrorism, but when we do the same thing, it called safe-guarding and freedom.

Old Clinton Humor and Confusion

I guess I will start with the confusion, we end bright and happily. I am confused because lately, the candidate's aides and advisers have been making more news than the actual candidates themselves. Hillary's aide compared Barack to Ken Starr. Ridiculous. Barack's advisor called Hillary a monster. Lame. Now Barack is calling her secretive for not letting the public see her tax returns. There is something fishy there I admit...but until there is further information I will give her the benefit of the doubt. Oh and these two need to control their aides. For real.

Ok NOW some Clinton humor. No matter who you support now, if you are a Democrat then there is a likelihood you love Bill Clinton. Well I absolutely love this video! It is from the very last days in Bill's presidency. It is a humorous take on the Lame Duck situation. It's pretty funny and there are some pretty famous guest stars as well! ENJOY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN1OCrRrgVw

sorry, need to figure out how this works...

Wyoming?!

Hillary is finally taking a rest from the campaign trail...at least a two day break. This comes on the verge of the ever important Wyoming Primary. Hmmm...taking a look at this tells me it is a good decision and a bad decision.

It is a good decision because hey, it's Wyoming. Sorry Wyoming, but you are the least populated state and nobody really pays attention to you. Just kidding. But the delegate number really isn't much of a jackpot. Get some rest and if you lose, you are still only down by a few.

It is a bad decision because if Obama wins another state, the wins in OH and TX will be a little short lived. Everyone will be reminded of the old 11 state streak thing he had going for a while. If the Clinton Campaign wants to keep the Obama Campaign's momentum down, it needs to continue...even if the state is Wyoming.

Candy Wrote It Better

Here is Candy Crowley's account of the happenings at the Antheneum that wonderful day of March 4th.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/05/bts.clinton/index.html

I was standing like 10 feet from her....but she is famous....so she clearly writes better.

CLINTON WINS OH AND TX!!!

First off, we need to get this out in the open. I am completely bias towards Hillary. So please comment with Barack bias so we can all be fair...or as fair as possible.

Soo....let's see...what's up....oh I remember.... HILLARY CLINTON WON OHIO AND TEXAS. Due to be obvious bias toward Hillary, I am absolutely thrilled. Luckily, I live in Ohio, so I got to go down to the Antheneum to witness history be made first hand.

I say history being made because a woman won a state that no president has gone without winning in (I believe) over 40 years. That is a huge deal. It was beyond amazing to witness the whole thing. Pictured is the huge screen at the Antheneum right after Clinton was announced as the winner. The crowd was going insane!! It was funny b/c Candy Crowley and Andrea Mitchell were there...but Candy was wearing jeans and sneakers, and just a nice shirt to look good on CNN. Hahaha. Funnny.

Hillary came out and was awesome as usual. We were happily surprised about the appearance of Chelsea. I asked her for a picture, but this random kid stepped in front of us and took it from us. I was reeaallly angered. But they were both so nice and the speech was really good. I liked the message: how you can never count anyone out and to always work hard when you are down.
The environment was great. Coming from a county that voted for Barack, it was nice to be around Hillary fans and just scream your lungs out for every percentage gained. The confetti was crazy too. Actually, I think it was borderline...too much. Everytime I opened my mouth a piece fell in. Awkward. Oh I took that picture -->
Overall, it was an amazing day. It ensured Hillary's validity as a candidate, and kept the exciting, historic race going for now.

The Renaissance of the Rampage

I haven't written in...how long? A year? Well those days are officially over. Do you realize what time this is? This is ELECTION YEAR. This is freaking HUGE. This blog is hopefully going to be a Democratic Haven. Stay tuned, b/c I am going to have all the facts and we are going to WIN 2008!
